The governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, has set up a committee tasked with coming up with a comprehensive development plan for the state.
A statement by the governor’s SSA on Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Zailani Bappa, on Wednesday, said “the committee is composed of seasoned intellectuals with disciplinary relevance to strategy, planning and administration.”
Mr Bappa said the functions the committee is expected to carry out include: development of a ten-year Development Plan for the state, development of a Sector Strategic Plan and a Medium-term Sector Implementation Plan for the state and liasing with government MDAs, national and international development partners to provide support for the state.
Other functions of the committee are rendering of advices to the governor on strategy and development matters and advising him on the smooth take-off of the newly established Zamfara State University on its management as well as the sustainability of all tertiary institutions in the state.
The committee is also expected to carry out any other duties that may be assigned by the governor.
Professor Yusuf M. Adamu Tsafe and Professor Yahaya A. Zakari have been appointed as the chairman and the vice-chairman of the committee respectively.
Other members of the committee are Alhaji Musa Ahmed Bungudu, Jalaludeen Ibrahim Maradun, Barrister Fatima A. Nahuche, Dr Bashir M. Maru and Gazali Shehu Ahmad, who is to serve as secretary.
The chairman is a professor of Geography and former Director of Strategic Planning Unit, Bayero University Kano.
The vice-chairman is a professor of Development Economics and the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor Federal of University of Gusau.
Mr Bungudu is a retired diplomat who served the United Nations in different countries for 32 years.
Mr Maradun is a university lecturer and the immediate past Deputy Dean of Student Affairs Division, Federal University Birnin-kebbi and currently a Research Fellow in a university in Norway.
Mrs Nahuce is a Lawyer and a judge at the FCT Customary Court of Appeal.
Mr Maru is a medical doctor with a hospital in Abuja and a specialist in Primary Healthcare.
Mr Shehu is an IT professional and a specialist in Development Studies and Policy Analysis. He is currently working with the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
