Governor Bello Matawalle has sworn-in Senator Hassan Nasiha as the new deputy governor in the state.
This followed the impeachment of former Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau by the state legislature on Wednesday.
Mr Nasiha was sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu.
A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, quoted the governor as saying that the decision to immediately swear-in the new deputy governor became imperative in order to end the long absenteeism by the former deputy governor.
According to him, the constitutional duties of a deputy governor in the stare can now be effectively performed.
He said a Deputy Governor must be vibrant, honest and loyal to the goals of the administration.
After wide consultations, Mr Nasiha was selected as the best candidate with qualities.
“He reminded the new deputy governor that he was coming at a time when the state requires commitment and out-of-box solutions to its mounting security problems, economic and social challenges
“He called on him to always be guided by his constitutional powers which were spelled out as to assist the Governor in the discharge of his duties.
“He also called on him to be just to every citizen in the state, irrespective of religion tribe or creed,” the statement noted.
In his acceptance speech, the new Deputy Governor affirmed his loyalty to the governor and his administration.
He also said he would employ all that is in his powers to ensure that the state government and people of the state succeed.
