Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has disclosed that the state government would soon award the contract for the construction of an Olympic size stadium in Gusau, the state capital.
A statement on Monday by the governor’s Special Adviser on media and publicity, Zailani Bappa, said the governor made the disclosure while receiving the torch of Unity from the Federal Ministry of Sports.
The statement noted that the delegation were at the Zamfara Government House for a courtesy visit in preparation for the sports festival coming up in Edo State, next month.
According to the statement, the stadium will be a 25,000 capacity one and will be modern in structure and facilities.
Mr Matawalle further disclosed that plans were on top gear to provide all the 14 Local Government Areas of the state with a mini stadium in order to fully engage youths at the grassroots level.
“It is true that sports is not only a means of recreation, but also an economic activity where we intend to engage our Youth to imbibe.
“As the saying goes, an idle mind is a devil’s workshop,” Governor Matawalle said.
He pointed out that a mini stadium has been incorporated in each of the three Rugga being constructed by his administration, “as a means of creating an enabling environment for the repentant youth to try their talents in sporting activities”.
Governor Matawalle, while assuring that either he or his deputy would be present at the event to give moral support to “Team Zamfara”, promised to support the execution of this year’s sports festival.
