More than 5,000 persons living with HIV/AIDS have been treated free of charge by a Community Based Care and Support Programme, CBCSP, an NGO of Catholic Diocese of Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Emmanuel Madaki, the Programme Manager of CBCSP, made this known on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen in Obi Local Government Area of the state.
He said that the organisation commenced the medical outreach since its establishment in 2003.
Mr Madaki advised Nigerians to imbibe regular medical check-up because of its advantages to their lives.
“Going for regular medical check-up will not only improve on the health status of Nigerians but will also avoid sudden death,’’ he said.
Mr Madaki explained that CBCSP embarked on the humanitarian gesture in order to improve the health status of Nigerians.

According to him, CBCSP started operations on March 28, 2003, as a social arm of the diocese.
“And since then we have been embarking on different intervention programmes in the areas of health, education and household economic strengthening, among others, for national development.
“We have embarked on different humanitarian gestures such as empowerment of thousands of vulnerable women and caregivers with N10,000 each to better their standard of living.
“I also want to disclose that in the area of health, we have treated over 5000 Persons Living with HIV in hospitals across the state.
“The benefitting local government areas are Lafia, Akwanga, Karu and Doma.
“It has been said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation, hence the need for the gesture,’’ he said.
Mr Madaki said that the organisation would continue to offer assistance to Nigerians, especially widows and orphans, in order to improve their health status as well as their standard of living.
