The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, said he has commenced moves to return some aggrieved lawmakers elected under the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The newly appointed minister specifically hinted that the Senator representing Kano South, Kawu Sumaila, House of Representatives members Kabiru Alhassan Rurum and Ali Madaki, will soon join the APC.
Recall that Messrs Sumaila and Rurum had left the APC to join the NNPP in a build up to the 2023 general elections.
The lawmakers are reportedly enmeshed in the ongoing crisis rocking the ruling party in Kano State.
However, speaking with the BBC Hausa service, Mr Ata explained that his appointment was aimed at addressing the crisis in the Kano APC and also restrategizing winning future elections.
“When you are given an appointment in government, if you do not know the job, it becomes difficult to deliver.
“That is why it is important to give to those who laboured for the party, and that’s why the supporters are also happy,” he noted.
While expressing optimism in the prospect of APC’s winning future elections, the minister emphasised the importance of balancing the party’s efforts across the region.
“Before, red caps were everywhere, but now it has drastically reduced. Time will tell, but we are strategising to win the election,” he said.
“We are bringing in people like Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Kawu Sumaila, and Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa to help strengthen our efforts,” he added.
