Troops of Operation Safe Haven have recovered the corpses of two missing herders in the Mabuhu-Wawan Rafi general area of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday identified the dead herders as Yusuf Ahmadu and Mustapha Bako who were earlier declared missing.
According to the commissioner, the herders had gone out to graze their cattle and then failed to return to their settlement.
He added that, “the cattle were eventually found wandering about the area unattended, with some bearing gunshot wounds. The herders’ corpses were found shortly after.”
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai noted the reports with sadness, and sent condolences to the families of the herders, and offered prayers for the repose of their souls.
“He tasked security agencies to ensure thorough investigations into their deaths. Investigations into the incident are in progress,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Commmissioner disclosed that troops had also arrested nine suspects in connection with deadly attack in Zangon Kataf local government area of the state.
In a separate statement, the commissioner noted that troops of Operation Safe Haven disclosed this in their operational feedback submitted to the state government.
He said: “It would be recalled that armed bandits carried out an attack on the village late on Sunday, leaving five people dead, as reported in a security update on Monday.
“The nine suspects were apprehended after continous tracking by the troops. An assortment of weapons was recovered from the group.
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai received the report with gratitude, and commended the troops for their relentless efforts, urging the security agencies to ensure diligent prosecution of the suspects.
“The suspects have been handed over to the Police for further investigation,” he added.
