Mob attacks KEDCO staff over disconnection of electricity in Kano

Staff of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, on disconnection and revenue collection assignment, have been attacked by a mob of defaulting customers in Sharada area of Kano metropolis.

Muhammad Kandi, KEDCO spokesman, said in a statement that the affected staff had been rushed to hospital after the attack.

Mr Kandi identified the affected staff include Ali Muhammad, Abdulkadir Waziri, and some female staff, adding that a female staff was molested, booed and nearly stripped.

He noted that the incident occurred despite the fact that the power distribution company supplied electricity of about 20 hours to the area.

“The perpetrators of such heinous act will not go unpunished. We will not be intimidated by any individual, group or organisation just as we wouldn’t be discouraged to carry out lawful duties simply because some customers have resorted to cheap bullying of our staff.

“We have already reported the case to the appropriate law enforcement agency for necessary action. Justice is that we seek in this matter and by the grace of Allah’s justice, we will get in the end,” he said.

He advised the staff not to relent in their effort to discharging their duties in accordance with the organisational policy, processes and procedures.
