MURIC inaugurates new chapter in Plateau, says fundamental rights of Muslims must be protected

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has inaugurated it’s Plateau State chapter with a view to utilising all lawful means to protect the fundamental rights of Muslims in the state.

Speaking during the inauguration of the chapter held at the Ansarudeen Mosque in Jos, the chapter chairman, Sadiq Abubakar-Yusuf, lamented that fundamental rights of Muslims in the state has continued to suffer infringement even when the constitution guarantees them all rights and privileges.

“We have observed the infringement of Muslims’ rights in Plateau State, despite the constitution of the country granting them such rights. We have been observing how our rights as Muslims are being infringed upon.

“The journey to inaugurate this chapter hasn’t been easy. We are calling on all Muslims to cooperate with us to achieve the desired goal,” he said.

The guest speaker, Bar. Sani Abdul-Aziz, noted that Muslims didn’t go to court to seek redress when they were cheated.

He, therefore, called on Muslims not to always give up when their rights were infringed or when they were cheated, adding that they should seek redress in the court.

Also speaking, an Islamic scholar and activist, Dr Nazifi Yunus, lamented that the lives and properties of the Muslims are not well protected in the state, admonishing the state government to grand them equal rights as every citizen.
