A former presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 general election, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola, has described the recent book launched by former President Jonathan, ‘My Transition Hour’, as “a pseudologia fantastica”.
Mrs Abiola, who made the remarks in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, also said the claim by the ex-president that former US President Barack Obama and former UK Prime Minister David Cameron were behind his monumental defeat at the polls was ludicrous.
According to her, Jonathan’s book is riddled with potholes and innuendoes aimed at a scandalous endangerment of the highway of our nation’s history.
She said: “Even though President Jonathan conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari after he lost the elections, he remained fixated on the presidency.
“He did not want to believe that Nigerian voters swept him out of power because of his gross incompetence and ineptitude.
“For the records, Jonathan lost the election because he made himself the sole candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, despite his abysmal failure in governance,” she noted.
The professor lamented that the former president directed the party to print only one Presidential Nomination Form 001, which she paid for.
“But because of his blind ambition, he confiscated my Presidential Nomination Form 001 and went into the political battlefield in borrowed robes, thereby meeting his political Waterloo accordingly,” she revealed.
“Barack Obama and European Leaders rightly admonished Jonathan for confiscating my Presidential Nomination Form as it was unconstitutional and the height of impunity to do so,” she added.
She further stated that the instrument that removed ex-president Jonathan from office was my Presidential Nomination Form 001 and “NOT Barack Obama.”
Mrs Abiola, who is the wife of the late business mogul and acclaimed winner of the June 12 election, Chief MKO Abiola, and an alumnus of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS said attempts by Jonathan to reverse history by casting aspersions on everybody for his failed presidential adventure cannot be sustained.
She said: “The ex-president plunged the nation into an avoidable security and humanitarian crisis, which culminated in the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls, yet he was callous enough to place the blame on certain state governors and security apparatus.”
Prof. Abiola said by turning the national treasury into a piggy bank for his family and cronies, ex-president Jonathan earned a gold medal in corruption and red card from Nigerians.
“I think the only option left for Jonathan is to plead with God and Nigerians for forgiveness and until we forgive him, he should remain in his purgatory of lethargy.
“No amount of write-up can erase the fact that he took this great nation for granted.
“The indeprecabilis question for Jonathan to answer is What did he do with the power Nigerians entrusted him with?,” she asserted.
Mrs Abiola challenged Mr Jonathan for his inability to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians or even the marginalized Niger Deltans.
“Did he even put drinking water in his own village? Are Jonathan’s village mansions accessible by road? Why does he charter helicopters to travel to his own village?,” she queried.
“Jonathan said corruption is not stealing and thereafter flagged off the looting spree of the treasury, which ultimately plunged Nigeria into recession when he left,” she cried.
“Jonathan will go down in history as Nigeria’s worst political mistake,” she concluded.
