The district head of Kumbotso, Ahmed Bayero, and five others have been charged to court for land racketeering and fraud to the tune of N44million.
Mr. Bayero, who also holds the title of Sarkin Dawakin Tsakargida in Kano, conspired with the rest of the accused to indulge in a series of land scams in his district area.
Daily Nigerian reliability gathered that when the charges were filed before a Kano High Court, the prince entered a plea bargain, promising to refund the part of the money he collected.
Although the executive chairman of Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Rimingado could not be reached for comment, sources in the commission confirmed that Mr. Bayero and five others were facing fraud charges.
On Wednesday Mr. Rimingado hinted that a highly placed traditional ruler in the state was among six people being investigated by the commission for fresh corruption charges.
“As I am talking to you now, somebody has been taken to court. This is the very first time we are having a very high profile case. We were able to prosecute a serving commissioner and a permanent secretary, first in the history of this state. And this is a huge success and as I am talking to you now, other six people, including a traditional ruler are on the line,” he added.
This is coming less than a month after the commission uncovered corruption activities in the state Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, involving the commissioner and a permanent secretary.
