The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has received the report of the committee set up to fine-tune the progress of the proposed Hajj Savings Scheme, HSS.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Committee comprised representatives of chief executives of states’ pilgrims’ welfare boards and representatives of NAHCON management.
The state chief executives under the leadership of its forum chairman, Abubakar S. Pawa Dembo, who is also the chairman, Zamfara State Hajj Commission, presented the document to the NAHCON Chairman, Zikrullah Kunle-Hassan, on Thursday in Abuja.
During the presentation, the committee members and NAHCON management deliberated on the outcome and took positions on the resolutions.
According to a statement on Thursday by the NAHCON Head of Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, issues deliberated upon included registration modalities, setting up of HSS Departments at the state boards, revenue sharing formula and the general enlightenment on the scheme.
Mrs Sanda-Usara disclosed that the committee had resolved that the state boards will collaborate with Ja’iz Bank on the HSS portal and investment deadline in line with Arafat Day.
At the end of the meeting, the Chairman, Forum of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards commended the NAHCON Chairman for his leadership style, calling on members to ensure firm establishment of the scheme in each state.
The statement said: “NAHCON’s three permanent commissioners, Alhaji Nura Hassan Yakasai, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Hardawa, and Sheikh Suleiman Momoh all commended the cooperation of states and that of NAHCON leadership applauding their firm commitment to unity of purpose, which is welfare of pilgrims.
“While rounding up the meeting, Alhaji Zikrullah Hassan thanked all members for their positive posture calling on participants to play their roles in the success of Hajj administration in Nigeria.
“He reminded the gathering that Hajj has existed before everyone present and will continue even after our exit, hence urged everybody to contribute positively to growth of the system.”
