A former minister of state for Information and communication, Dasuki Nakande, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for re-appointing Abba Kyari and Boss Mustapha as Chief of Staff to the President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.

Mr Nakande, who spoke with newsmen in Jos, Plateau State on Saturday, described the re-appointment as a wise decision that would further stabilise the polity.

“Abba Kyari and Boss Mustapha have been strong pillars of support for the current administration, and should also be on board to consolidate on the progress made during the first term,” he stressed.

According to Mr Nakande, the knowledge and experience of the two are needed for the administration to deliver on its outstanding promises to Nigerians.

He added that President Buhari did the right thing by re-appointing the duo to be part of his second term journey.

“Nobody understands the policies of the current administration better to coordinate activities in the presidency like Abba Kyari, and since Boss Mustapha came on board in 2017, the quality of governance had deepened.

“Bringing in new persons at this stage to serve in those two key positions would have meant going back to the drawing board to start afresh,” he said.

Mr Nakande added that Mr Kyari knows the history of every policy as well as the policy direction of the present government, while Mr Mustapha has added value to its governance, saying it would have been counterintuitive for Mr Buhari to have dropped any of them.

He said: “The two men possess the winning formula so it is only right that they should be allowed to continue.

“People forget how the Chief of Staff was able to keep a positive attitude when the President was on medical vacation abroad some years back.”

Mr Nakande noted that the positive attitude that Mr Kyari projected when Mr Buhari was away for medical vacation had encouraged others in government to perform their responsibilities efficiently until the President came back.

“That is something the President and indeed well-meaning Nigerians cannot forget in a hurry because it helped us to get over at the most trying moment in our history. So, it is most appropriate for the President to retain Abba Kyari.

“Mustapha, on his part, has remained focused and had contributed in stabilising the polity by his mature approach to issues and sincerity of purpose.

“Since he became the SGF, he has brought goodwill and increased the level of confidence the people have on the current administration,” Mr Nakande said.
