The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday approved the request of state governor, Tanko Almakura, to sell the state’s property located in Lagos, Jos and Kaduna due to their dilapidated state.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the speaker of the house announced the approval on Monday in a resolution adopted during the plenary following the governor’s request.
The governor’s letter on the request was earlier read to the House by the Majority Leader, Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North).
The property to be sold in Kaduna are at No. 23, Katuru Road; No. 12, Lamido Road.
In Jos, Plateau, the property, are located at No. 31, Ibrahim Taiwo Road and No. 3 Rest Houses Road.
In Lagos, they are located at the former Plateau Liason Office, Blocks A and B; Plot 1234, and No. 31, Oladipo Street, Apapa GRA, Lagos.
Mr Abdullahi said that the proceeds from the sales would be ploughed back to complete the multi-purpose Nasarawa State House at the Central Business Area, Garki, Abuja.
According to the speaker, other projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the citizens of the state will also benefit from the proceeds.
“We are passing a resolution approving the request of his Excellency, Gov.Tanko Almakura, to dispose of government property in Lagos, Kaduna and Jos.
“The reasons for the sale are dilapidation and deteriorating conditions of the buildings, high cost of maintenance of the buildings and payment of municipal taxes, and collection of illegal rent by unscrupulous officers with such monies not coming to the state.
“Lagos, Kaduna and Jos no longer serve as federal, regional and state capital as the case may be and no need for any strong presence in these cities and it is more economical and administratively convenient to maintain a minimal presence in Kaduna and a more robust presence in Abuja.
“The sale of the assets on the now liquidated Nasarawa Investment and Property Development Company (NIPDC) Ltd. to offset its liabilities while the balance, if any will be ploughed back to government to pursue its developmental agenda.
“The assets proposed to be sold are Nasarawa Investment Conference, Azuba land; Nasara Spring Water Nig. (NASWAN) Ltd., Lafia as well as the Kuchikau Site and Services Scheme7.02 land opposite Karu International market,” the speaker said.
He urged the state government to dispose the items based on the reasons given and directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the governor .(NAN)
