The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has received a delegation from the Federal Government, led by the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, Khalil Halilu ahead of the official launch of the ‘Irrigate Nigeria’ project in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Irrigate Nigeria Project is a flagship agricultural initiative designed to revolutionize irrigation farming through cutting-edge technology, boosting food production, and enhancing farmers’ productivity.
The project, which aligns with the Federal Government’s vision of achieving food security, economic diversification, and sustainable agricultural development, is anchored by NASENI, under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, RHIDF.
This groundbreaking Federal Government’s initiative is designed to revolutionize irrigation farming, enhance food security, and empower local communities with sustainable agricultural infrastructure.
The initiative tagged “Irrigate Nigeria project” will enhance mechanized farming and has the potential to transform Nigeria’s agriculture by enabling farmers to achieve three rounds of harvests yearly or more, compared to the traditional single-season harvest. This will address the ongoing food scarcity challenge in the country.
The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu said the initiative would provide farmers with modern irrigation methods using NASENI technologies and equipment for dry-season farming, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security agenda.
The launch of Irrigate Nigeria is expected to usher in a sustainable agricultural revolution, foster modern agricultural practices through the use of precision technology, solar irrigation system and other methods to be deployed by NASENI in both small-and large-scale farms across the country.
