NBC inaugurates anti-corruption, transparency unit

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, on Tuesday in Abuja inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, ACTU, to curtail corrupt practices in the commission.

The Director-General of NBC, Is’haq Kawu, promised to cooperate with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to ensure that unit carry out its duties effectively.

Mr Kawu, who was represented by Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, Director Monitoring, said that NBC has a robust relationship with the ICPC that led to beneficial development of the commission.

The ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, represented by Olayinka Aiyegbayo said the NBC was playing crucial roles in national development.

He noted the role NBC played in regulating and controlling the broadcast industry as well as accrediting the mass communication curricula in all tertiary institutions and other institutions related to broadcasting.

He pledged full support to the activities of the reconstituted unit, especially in the areas of providing funds for its operations, and for the inclusion of its members in all relevant standing committees.

He said the ACTU on its part would assist the commission in combatting corrupt practices.

Responding, the Chairman, NBC ACTU, Ruth Caleb, expressed appreciation to management of the NBC and ICPC for their support.

Abodunrin Adebimpe, a legal officer with the ICPC, administered the oath of allegiance to the newly inaugurated ACTU members.
