A political pressure group, Nigerian Consolidation Ambassadors Network, NCAN, has begun the collection of signatures of Nigerians to prevail on President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 president election.
The group, according to a statement on its website www.sign4buhari2019.ng, said the collection of the signatures is a way of creating awareness amongst the populace on why the president should not just accept the call to contest the 2019 election, but for him to be elected for another term of four years.
The group said it acknowledge the fact that there are still much left to be done by the Buhari government especially going by the huge expectations of Nigerians when he assumed office.
It however said that “there is no doubt that the president in just more than two years in office has achieved a lot particularly in resetting the country back to the path of growth and development.”
The coordinator of the group, Sunusi Musa, noted that “While it can be argued that much is still left to be done especially going by the huge expectations Nigerians had upon him when he assumed power in May 2015, there is no denying the fact that the Buhari government has achieved a lot in tackling insecurity, diversifying the economy, fighting corruption amongst many others”.
The statement further noted that “looking at where we are coming from and where we are as a nation today, one can only say that the Buhari presidency for another term of four years is what Nigeria needs at this moment”.
The group therefore urged Nigerians to join the call on President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential election by signing on the website.
The website, aside provision for interested Nigerians to fill in their details as a way of endorsing the president to contest for another term of four years, has sections that covers some of the achievements of the Buhari government in the areas of security, anti-corruption, infrastructure, agriculture, foreign affairs and social investments.
The group also disclosed that it has started distribution of registers to all 774 Local government area to enable those with no internet access to be part of the process.
The group prides itself as a network of patriotic and objective Nigerians with spread across the 36 states of the federation and the federal capital territory as well as the 774 local government areas of the country.
