The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has promised to continue supporting the country’s sports development, especially tennis in which it has invested in the growth of local players.
NCC, which at the weekend was honoured by the Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club, said the recognition would encourage it to do more for Nigeria’s sports development.
Speaking after receiving the award, NCC’s Head of Public Relations, Reuben Muoka said, “This award means a lot to us. Our chief executive officer always says that he is encouraged to do even more when we are given such recognition. If you are recognized, it means you are doing the right thing.
“We are hoping for the best next year, the country is coming out of recession and things will start coming up. What we are doing is to support the economy through sports because the tennis league that we sponsor engages the youths to earn a living. We want to step it up in 2018,” he said.
At the event, the chairman of the Tennis Section of Ikoyi Club, Sesan Ogunlewe presented a plague of recognition to the telecommunication agency for its continued support for sports in the country. He said, “When you do something good, you have to be recognized for that. We are beneficiaries of the good things the NCC has been doing… they spend a lot of money to promote wellness and wellbeing of Nigerians through their involvement in sports.”
