The Jigawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said it has arrested 186 persons in connection with different illicit drugs related cases.
This was stated by state commander, Obi Josephine Ruth, at press briefing on the commemoration of the World Drugs Free Day with the theme of this year’s commemoration as “Health for Justice, Justice for Health”.
She explained that from January to June 2019 the command has arrested 186 persons out of which 182 were males and four were females and seized 61.24 kg of various narcotics and psychotropic substances.
Ms Josephine said the suspects arrested were in connection with abuse of cannabis sativa, codeine and psychotropic substances such as Diazepam, Exol, Tramadol and Rohypnol as well as non-conventional substances like rubber solution, suck-and-die and lizard dung.
She said NDLEA would continue to work to sensitize state through arrests, seizures, diligent prosecution and counseling.
The state commander then commended the Jigawa state government for the establishment of rehabilitation center in the state which would serve as residential counseling center.
She said out of the number arrested 22 were convicted while 108 persons were counseled.
