The new Commissioner of Police for Kano State, Ahmed Iliyasu, has assumed duty with a vow to trample upon criminals and criminality with an iron fist in the state.

Addressing journalists at his maiden press conference in the command on Friday, the new CP said he would work on the Inspector General of Police Adamu Mohammed’s templet of using intelligence to track down criminals.

According to him, there would be no safe haven for hoodlums in the state, assuring that there would be zero tolerance for kidnapping, thuggery, drug abuse and all forms of banditry in the state.

Mr Iliyasu further stated that he is determined to make Kano, being a commercial nerve centre in the African sub-region, the safest place.

“This could only be achieved when all hands are on deck,” the new CP added.

Speaking on community policing as one of his priorities, Mr Ilyasu stressed the need for communities’ active participation in the fight against crime and other social vices.

He, therefore, vowed that criminality would not see the light of the day during his time in the state.

“One of my priorities is community policing. I am here to work and I am willing to make Kano the safest state, not only in Nigeria but in the whole of Africa. But I can’t achieve this unless with active participation and cooperation of members of the public.

“I will use intelligence, as part of the mission and vision of the IGP Adamu Mohammed. Intelligence is veritable to policing even in developed countries.

“I would have zero tolerance for criminality such as kidnapping, thuggery, youth restiveness, drug addiction, drug peddling and all forms of banditry. I will not allow such to continue in this state,” he said.

Mr Iliyasu however described media as an indispensable tool to security operations, calling on the working journalists to be professional and askew fake and mischievous stories in the discharge of their duties.

While appealing to all media houses to give their maximum cooperation to the command, the CP also urged members of the public to put hands on deck in a bid to secure the state.
