Again, Abuja-Kaduna train breaks down in bush

Hundreds of passengers were stranded in the bush after Abuja-Kaduna train broke down on Monday, the second time the train suffered malfunction midway to its destination.

On December 19 last year, the service, launched on July 26, 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari, broke down and left passengers stranded until after another locomotive came to their rescue.

Monday’s incident occurred at Rijana in the early hours of the day, 50 kilometres to its Rigasa destination on the outskirt of Kaduna.

Angry passengers voiced out their anger, wondering why brand new train could start developing faults a few months after operation.

“If actually the trains were new, how could they have started developing faults in a short period of time?” one of the passengers yelled.

Another passenger also lamented why Nigeria does not have at least two-track train service that will be working simultaneously.

“In this 21st century, it is saddening that our leaders could only conceive the idea of building one-track train service despite our population,” a passenger who simply identified himself as Chris said.

A rescue locomotive, which was also jerking, arrived hours later and towed them to their destination.
