Sadiq Abubakar Isa, a four-year-old boy, whose eyes were plucked by suspected ritualists in Zaria, Kaduna State, is yet to come to term with the immutability of the tragedy that befell him.
Sadiq is not aware that his loss of vision is beyond the temporary blindfold, but a permannent loss of sight.
Every time Saddiq hears the emotive voice of his distraught mother, he would cry and ask her to remove the heavy bandage blindfolding him.
“Mommy, open my eyes to see you,” he begged for the umpteenth time as the painkillers subdued sensation in his wounded eyes sockets.
“Ok Sadiq,” she would reply in tears, “I will remove it for you soon.”
Last week Sadiq lost his eyes to ritualists who took him to an uncompleted building and plucked his eyeballs.
Well-meaning Nigerians have made pledges to foot his medical bill at foreign hospital, just as others pledged to sponsor his education to university level.
