In the light of the renewed onslaught of bombings by the notorious Islamic sect, Boko Haram in the North-east, a member of the Federal House of Representative, Hon. Mutiu Shadimu representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1, has urged the military to involve community leaders and youths in the bid to flush out members of the dreaded sect.
Speaking on the spate of bombings which had drawn negative attention to the country, Shadimu said that there was a need to tackle the problem from the home-front as there was little that international assistance could do in eradicating the menace of the dreaded sect.
“There is a need by the Federal Government and the military to involve the leaders and youths of the various communities in the North-East in the fight against Boko Haram, because they (Boko Haram) members are also human beings who eat, sleep and move around the neighbourhoods. Therefore, people in the communities should be able to identify any strange faces amongst them and quickly pass on the information to the necessary authorities before it leads to any carnage and loss of lives,” he said.
Shadimu said there should be concerted efforts at identifying the sponsors of Boko Haram as financial and artillery support had been key elements in the success of the sect for the past three years as they have been able to maintain a strong hold in major parts of the North till date.
