Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, has described the appointment of Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu as the new Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as a well- thought-out decision, which would guarantee that the preservation of the legacy of Prof. Attahiru Jega, the immediate past Chairman of the Commission.
In a statement issued, in Abuja, after the National Council of State rose from its meeting in Aso Villa, at which the appointment of Prof. Yakubu and five other INEC Commissioners was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari and ratified by the Council, the IPAC Chairman described Buhari’s decision to appoint Yakubu as patriotic and consistent with his commitment to appoint only people of unquestionable character and proven integrity into public office.
Ibrahim described Yakubu as an extremely fair-minded technocrat, an academic of international repute and a skillful administrator who was cut for the INEC job.
