The death has been announced of Professor Luke Uka Uche of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos. Uche passed on peacefully at Illinois, Chicago on October 6, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
He was an erudite scholar and acclaimed advocate of communication as agent of development process.
A Fulbright fellow and author of many scholarly books on Development Journalism, he served variously as Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Editor-in-Chief Pan African News Agency (PANA), Radio Nigeria Kaduna and was external examiner to many universities including Liecester University, United Kingdom.
Left behind to mourn him are his wife of over 40 years Mrs. Joyce Chibuzo Uche, a retired director in the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, four children and five grand-children among who are Ugochukwu Uche, Adaku Uche Ekpo, Uzodinma Uche and Nnanenyem Uche.
He will be laid to rest at his country home in Abayi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State, on Friday November 6, 2015.
