The Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism, PNDS presidential candidate for Niger’s December elections, Bazoum Mohamed, has announced the appointment of Sani Mahamadou Issoufou as his campaign leader at a campaign rally.
However, there was no official announcement from the ruling PNDS Federal Party on the appointment of the ruling president’s son as Mr Bazoum’s campaign leader.
Meanwhile, critics say he lacks political expertise, noting that the move could lead to differences among party leaders.
Some, however, see the appointment of President Mohammadou Issoufou’s son as Mr Bazoum’s campaign leader as a step towards uniting other party members.
The appointment has been linked to a move to dispel rumors that President Mohammadou Issoufou is backing former military ruler Salou Djibo, a BBC report said.
