Niger LG polls: 2 LGs declared inconclusive as APC wins 22

Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, NSIEC, has declared Saturday’s chairmanship elections in two local government areas as inconclusive, while the All Progressives Congress, APC, won in 22 out  of 25 LGAs and the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, clinched one.

Announcing the results in Minna on Sunday, NSIEC chairman, Alhaji Aminu Baba, said nine political parties participated in the elections.

He said 85 candidates participated in the chairmanship races across the 25 LGAs while 661 candidates battled it out in the councillorship polls.

Mr Baba the 2 LGAs that had their chairmanship elections declared inconclusive were Mashegu and Tafa. 

NSIEC also declared inconclusive  six councillorship elections in six wards.

He, however, described elections as generally peaceful throughout the 25 local government areas of the state even as he commended the security agencies and the media for ensuring the violent free polls.

He gave the names of local government won by the APC as Bosso, Bida, Magama, Kontagora, Rafi, Suleja, Paikoro, Shiroro, Wushishi, Rijau, Edati, Katcha, Mokwa, Agaie, Mariga, Lavun, Lapai, Gurara, Munya, Agwara, Borgu, Chanchaga, while Gbako local government was won by the PDP.
