A General Court Martial of the Nigerian Air Force on Tuesday arraigned one of its personnel, Bernard Kalu, for the murder of his girlfriend, Oladipupo Sholape.

Mr Kalu, a regular airman of the 533 Central Armament Depot, NAF Base, Makurdi had, on March 12, allegedly killed Ms Sholape, an aircraftswoman, for jilting him.

The accused is also standing trial for housebreaking, impersonation as a commissioned officer on Facebook with the intent to defraud the public, and attempt to murder one Samuel Onah.

Other charges are failing to perform assigned military duties and using service property contrary to the armed forces Act.

While reading the six charges against the accused, President of the General Court Martial, Elisha Bindul, said the accused had on March 12, 2017, gone to Ms Sholape’s house at Compound 9, Block B, Flat 9 at NAF Base and shot her with an FM rifle with an intent of causing her death.

Mr Kalu, however, pleaded not guilty to all six counts.

The trial was subsequently adjourned to June 2, following a motion for adjournment by Mr Kalu’s lawyer to enable him respond to the charges preferred against his client.
