The Nigerian government has approved the purchase of Metro Plaza at the cost of N2.4 billion which is to serve as the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, corporate headquarters in Abuja.
NAHCON’s head of media, Uba Mana said on Wednesday in a statement that the approval by the federal government followed the Federal Executive Council’s scrutiny on the request and subsequent approval for the purchase at the said amount to be raised by the commission.
“The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria NAHCON, to purchase Metro Plaza building from Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria AMCON at the cost of N2.4 billion.
“The property which is segmented into three structures is to serve as the commission’s future corporate headquarters,” the statement said.
Mr Mana said the FEC’s approval “was granted consequent upon the commission’s ability to raise the sum of 2 billion out of the N2.4 billion of the agreed price. The balance of N500 million which is about 20% is to be funded from the commission’s 2017 budget appropriated capital expenditure.”
The statement said after renovation of the Plaza, it will serve the commission’s main headquarters, as the two annexes ‘are to be rented out for the commission to generate revenue in its strive to achieve financial autonomy from government.”
