Nigerian govt grants full operational licence to Maryam Abacha varsity

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Education, has granted full operational licence to Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, to enable it operate as a Private University in the country.

The licence dated September 2, was jointly signed by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and Acting Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, NUC, Chris J. Maiyaki respectively.

The full operational licence was granted to the university after it met all the requirements laid down in the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap E3 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and after a satisfactory mandatory probationary period.

With the granting of the licence, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has now been registered and permitted to operate statutorily aş a private university in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission, NUC, had between 8th and 10th May, 2024 paid an assessment visit to the MAAUN for the review of the provisional licence issued to the university.

The visit was aimed at assessing the level of compliance with the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards, BMAS, and other operational guidelines with a view to determining the issuance or otherwise of a Full (Statutory) Licence.
