A 39-year-old man, Olakunle Agbaje, has been arrested by men of Ogun state police command for allegedly stealing a one-month-old baby in Mowe area of Obafemi Owode local government area of the state.

The mother of the baby, Marufu Taiwo, was said to have been sleeping in her room when the suspect sneaked into her room and took the baby boy from her side.

The suspect, according to statement by the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, was arrested following a distress call made to the police.

Mr Oyeyemi said, “While the suspect was tiptoeing out of the room, the mother of the child woke up and raised alarm consequent upon which distress call was made to the police”.

He said the police quickly moved to the scene of the incident and arrested the suspect.

The suspect during interrogation initially claimed that he strayed into the woman’s room unknowingly but “later started begging for mercy with the plea that he didn’t know what pushed him to do what he did.”
