The development Research and Projects Center, dRPC, has called for the adoption of digital boards in teaching as a shift from chalkboards and whiteboards to Digital Boards to meet the Digital Technology revolution in learning.

dRPC’s Education Officer, Suleiman Mahmud, made the call while presenting a memo at the 2024 Joint Consultative Committee on Education meeting held in Calabar from 27 to 30 May 2024 at the College of Health Technology, Calabar, Cross Rivers State.

Mr Mahmoud described the need for technological infusion in teaching in Nigerian schools as the best method to improve learning and move away from traditional methods.

According to him, the traditional methods are serving as encumbrances in education in the 21st century.

The meeting theme was: “Innovation, Digital Technology and Entrepreneurship: Tools for Educational and National Development in the 21st Century”.

The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretaries and Directors from the ministries of education, the federal ministry of education, and the federal capital territory.

Military and Paramilitary Personnel, Education stakeholders, CSOs, and NGOs were also attendees.

He revealed that the dRPC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in Kano state, presented two memos at the meeting.

The first was the need to include Civic Education as a course of study in Nigerian Tertiary institutions as an innovative tool for Educational and National Development in the 21st Century.

‘’Our memo was a call for a shift from using Chalkboards and whiteboards to using Digital Boards in teaching to meet up with Digital Technology as a tool for Educational and National Development in the 21st Century.’ He said

MrvSuleiman then disclosed that the summaries of the recommendations from the nine different committees will be harmonised to produce one summary of recommendations for approval at the National Council of Education later in the year.

‘’All approved memos that are similar will be merged by the JCCE Secretariat to avoid duplication. After the harmonisation, the SoR will be shared with all those who attended the JCCE meeting,’’’ he added.
