Nigerian troops ambush bandits, kill 2 in Kaduna

Troops of Operation Thunder Strike has neutralized two bandits along the Sabon Iche-Kagarko Road, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the troops laid an ambush along the route following credible intelligence on the bandits’ movement in the area.

He said, while attempting to invade the road for an operation, the bandits entered the killing zone and the troops opened fire on the bandits as they beat a hasty retreat.

Mr Aruwan added that after the firefight, the dead bodies of two bandits were retrieved by the troops, the rest are suspected to have escaped with gunshot wounds, while the troops suffered no casualties.

The statement quoted Governor Nasir El-Rufai as expressing his elation at the report, praising the troops’ gallantry and congratulating them for a successful expedition.

He added that confirmation from local sources revealed that the bandits were indeed part of the notorious group terrorizing the area.

“Aggressive patrols will continue in the general area,” the Commissioner stressed.

He therefore, advised the residents of communities around the area to report individuals seeking medical attention for suspicious injuries.

“Citizens are to note that any locals found harboring or providing medical aid to bandits with bullet wounds will be charged as bandits,” he noted.
