In what looked like a retaliatory move, Nigerian troops have taken the offensive to Boko Haram enclave, killing seven terrorist commanders and fighters at the fringes of Lake Chad in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Recall that on Sunda, the insurgents had killed one of the commanders of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Colonel D.C Bako, in Borno State.
Mr Bako had led a patrol to clear terrorists from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa when his patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020.
In a swift offensive, the troops eliminated top Boko Haram/ISWAP commanders: Abu Usman, Alhaji Shettima, Modu Mainok, Bukar Gana, Abu Summayya, Amir Taam and Amir Kuraish, during the operation.
Confirming the elimination in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, John Enenche, disclosed that the troops also destroyed several camps used by the terrorists located at Tunbun Gini, Tunbun Nbororo, Tunbun Kayoma, Tunbun Kaza and Tunbun Fulani during the operation.
He assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria in collaboration with other security agencies were committed to ending terrorism and other security challenges in the country.
“While the good people of the North-East are once again assured of troop’s commitment to the safety of lives and property within the zone, they are also encouraged to continue to avail the troops with timely and credible information that will assist them in the conduct of their operations,” he said.
