A statement by CISF on Friday said he was intercepted around 4am at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, IGIA, after security personnel found him roaming suspiciously in the terminal area.
The Nigerian-Bollywood actor, according to the statement, had a ticket to Goa on a Vistara airlines flight and when he was questioned, he confessed that his visa had expired.
CISF officials later contacted immigration and central intelligence agencies who confirmed that the Nigerian man’s visa had expired in 2011.
“The man enjoys a celebrity status in his country and has also acted in some Hindi movies. He was living in India illegally,” a senior CISF officer said.
He has been handed over to intelligence bureau sleuths for further probe.
Mr Akanbi is known for featuring in three box office movie in India, which are: Dangal (2016), Raag Desh (2017) and Singam 3 (2017).
Dangal is a Hindi language sports film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Aamir Khan, under his studio Aamir Khan Production with UTV Motion Pictures and Want Disney Pictures, India.
Raag Desh is a hisstorical action drama directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and produced by Gurdeep Singh Sappal and Rajya Sabha TV. The film is based on Indian National Army Trials.
Singam 3 is a Tamil-language action film written and directed by Hari Krishnan.
