Helen Williams, a Nigerian hair maker, has been certified by Guinness World Records, GWR, as the new record holder for the widest handmade wig.
In a recent blog post, GWR announced that Helen created a wig measuring 3.65 meters (11 feet 11 inches) wide, trailing to the floor.
Thee wig’s width is comparable to the length of a Mini Cooper, which is 3.63 meters (11 feet 10 inches) long.
Helen, a professional wig maker, began her third record-breaking attempt in February and completed it within a month.
She used more than 800 bundles of auburn hair, spending over N4 million ($2,719; £2,150) on materials.
GWR noted that the 31-year-old primarily crafted the wig by hand, though she employed a sewing machine for some parts.
“Helen makes wigs every day, but this was such a huge project that it took her months to plan and design.
“She was inspired to take on the challenge by actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore, who was involved in making a previous record-breaking wide wig.”
Also speaking, Helen said: “I encountered many problems. The first few days of the attempt were difficult because I couldn’t walk or sit properly anymore
“I was feeling pains everywhere, I had to deal with neck pains, back pains, and pains in my thighs. Putting the wig on my head was also very tough because of the weight. But I am very happy I completed the project.”
Helen mentioned that her inspiration stemmed from Drew Barrymore, the American actress who previously established the widest wig record in 2017.
With three records under her belt, Helen has surpassed previous achievements, including setting a new record by inserting 90 hair clips into a wig within 30 seconds and for creating the longest handmade wig.
Last November, Helen was officially recognized by GWR as the record holder for crafting the longest handmade wig.
Additionally, Helen holds the record for the most hair clips (90) inserted into a wig within a 30-second timeframe.
