A group of talented young Nigerians has unveiled a new movement to rescue the country from the brinks of collapse and dislodge the old political class.

The group, named ‘The Movement’, otherwise known as ‘Tafiyar Matasa, was officially unveiled virtually on Wednesday after months of preparation.

The movement’s membership cuts across various professions and diverse backgrounds.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the chief convener of the movement, Bulama Bukarti, said the purpose of the movement was to reclaim the country from clueless, corrupt, and selfish leaders, who, according to him, have failed Nigerians for decades.

According to him, the fundamental objective of the movement is to foster national unity, cohesion, and prosperity.

Mr Bukarti said: “Today, we stand at a crossroads. Our beloved country, once known for its boundless potential, now finds itself shackled by a political system that no longer serves its people.

“Corruption has replaced vision, self-interest has overtaken public service, and hope, for many, has given way to despair. But we are not here today to mourn this reality; we are here to change it.

“The old order has had its chance. For decades, both the ruling class and the opposition have failed to deliver the Nigeria we deserve.

“The result is a nation gripped by insecurity, inflation, unemployment, and broken promises. But today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Nigeria. A time for patriotic Nigerians to rise and take back the future that has been stolen from us.

“The Movement (or Tafiyar Matasa in Hausa) is not just a movement; it is a clarion call to every Nigerian youth and well-meaning citizen who believes in the future of our country.

“We are here to fight corruption, restore security, control inflation, and bring down the cost of living.

“This is why we are here: to inject new blood and energy into the Nigerian political system, to restore integrity, and to build a country that works for every Nigerian, not just the privileged few,” Mr Bukarti said.

The convener who is a legal practitioner and political analyst noted the movement is not just a political movement; but a campaign for societal reorientation.

According to him, TM is a call for a new standard in both leadership and citizenship, where every Nigerian embodies these values in daily life and public service.

“In the coming months and years, we will work hand in hand to engage every Nigerian, regardless of where they are from or what they believe, to build a stronger, more united nation.

“TM belongs to everyone, and together, we will shape the future of Nigeria,” he added.

“My fellow Nigerians, the time for action is now. The old system has proven that it cannot deliver the change we need.

“It is time for new leadership, new ideas, and new hope. Today, we take the first step in that direction, and we invite all of you to walk with us.

“In conclusion, this movement is not just about politics—it is about building a future where every Nigerian can thrive.

“We will challenge the status quo, and we will demand more from our leaders, our institutions, and ourselves,” the lawyer and activist added.

He, therefore, encouraged Nigerian youths to take control of their destiny, urging them to build a prosperous Nigeria, and ensure that future generations inherit a nation they could be proud of.

Other speakers who spoke at the virtual event lamented the effect of bad governance and massive corruption on society, especially the disregard for citizens’ welfare by successive administrations.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the movement has Mr Bukarti as the chief convener, Jude Daniel, as secretary and legal adviser.

Others are prominent Kano-based lawyers and activists, Abba Hikima, Hausa musician Naziru Ahmad, Ummulkhairi Getso, Fatima Aliyu, Sharafaddeen Bature, Peter Bright, Mevon Samuel, and Auwal Abubakar Congo.
