Nigerians in UK to march for freedom of ex-Kano Emir Sanusi

Concerned Nigerians in the UK will be protesting against the abduction and unlawful imprisonment of the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by Nigerian authorities on Monday.’

A statement by the co-convener, Audu Bulama-Bukarti, said the procession will depart Trafalgar Square at 1pm from where it will march to the Nigerian High Commission. All concerned Nigerians – students, professionals and residents – interested in human rights, democracy and justice are urged to attend.

He said protesters will march from Trafalgar Square to the Nigerian High Commission on Northumberland Avenue and deliver a letter demanding the immediate, unconditional release of the former Emir.

The group will also deliver letters to the British PM; Speaker, UK Parliament; and All-Party Parliamentary Group Nigeria and Human Rights on Nigeria, urging them to condemn the wanton violation of the dethroned emirs rights and calling on Nigerian authorities to release him.

All Nigerians — students, professionals and residents — as well as others interested in human rights, democracy and the rule of law are urged to attend.
