Nigeria’s digital economy not feasible without 70% broadband penetration – Pantami

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami stressed that Digital Economy cannot be achieved without adequate broadband penetration in the country.

Recall that following the unveiling of the National Policy for Digital Economy Policy and Strategy for a digital Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari sometimes last year, Mr Pantami on December 16, 2019 had inaugurated the National Broadband Plan Committee with a mandate to ensure that nation attains the 70 percent broadband target by 2025.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that since the inauguration of the committee, the minister had been working closely with the members to ensure a hitch-free implementation of the national digital economy policy and strategy of the Federal Government.

On Wednesday, while making his remarks during the meeting of the Committee in Abuja, Mr Pantami, stressed that an increase in Broadband Penetration will improve the country’s GDP.

While citing the statistics of World Bank, World Economic Forum and ITU, the minister stressed that a 10% increase in Broadband Penetration  of a country could translate into the GDP increase by 2.5% or in some cases, 3.8%.
