Minister of Works, David Umahi, has said that President Bola Tinubu inherited an economy that was on a life support from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.
He, however, said Mr Tinubu has removed the oxygen and put the country in the path of sustainable development.
Mr Umahi stated this during the official flag-off ceremony of the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in the Akampa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
“We came at a time when Nigeria was seriously challenged,” Mr Umahi said.
“I was reading about commendations and the upgrading of Nigeria’s economy. There’s recognition for Mr. President’s efforts—our economy is in a much better place now. We inherited an economy that was in shock, on oxygen. But the oxygen has been removed. The worst is over.
“We are now on the path to prosperity, and this project is a clear example of that. I challenge anyone who criticizes this project to an open debate—whether in terms of cost-effectiveness, value for money, or the overall investment. This is more than a road construction project; it is a strategic investment,” he continued.
While appealing to Nigerians to keep praying for President Tinubu, he affirmed that no opposition can derail his administration if it is aligned with the will of God.
“Opposition shouldn’t be about destructive talk—it should be about presenting alternatives. When people criticise without solutions, yet the people are happy wherever we go, then we know we’re on the right track,” he said.
