The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has donated 150 computers to the Federal University Dutse, FUD, Jigawa, to enhance teaching and learning in the school.
This is contained in a statement by Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, Chief Information Officer of the university, on Sunday in Dutse.
Mr Yayaha-Bello said the computers comprising 100 Lenovo desktops and 50 HP laptops were donated by the agency, under its Procurement of Computer System for Universities programme.
He said the computers were presented to the University by the Director General of the agency, Kashifu Inuwa, represented by Hannah Peter.
The spokesman quoted Kashifu as saying that the gesture was to improve e-learning in the university.
He also quoted the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo, as commending the gesture, adding that it would boost the e-learning and digitisation agenda of the university.
“The NITDA D-G is a very dynamic and focus driven individual who is in the forefront of bringing critical IT infrastructure to Nigerian universities, in order for them to keep pace with the 21st century.
“FUD is particularly grateful to the D-G for the numerous collaborations, especially in the agricultural sector, under the Centre for Agricultural Research and Extension Services (CARES) of the university.
“In this era of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), universities have no option, but to embrace it in teaching, learning and research activities,” Sabo was quoted as saying in the statement.
The statement also disclosed that the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, NOTAP, donated IT equipment to the university’s ICT Centre.
NOTAOP’s representative, Jairus Omenka, said the equipments were donated in collaboration between the Centre and the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
According to the statement, the partnership aims at encouraging establishment of IT offices in tertiary institutions of learning.
“NOTAP would also take the full responsibility for the installation of the equipment,” Omenka was quoted as saying.
The statement further quoted the VC, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Services, Prof. Nura Muhammad, as commending the initiative.
“The equipment will assist the university to facilitate communication, enhance learning, and participation in national and international academic discourse.
“The management of the university has been working hard to put the university in the best position in the area of ICT.”
