The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, in partnership with the Kaduna State Government, is set to train 75,000 people on various Information Technology skills with a view to enhancing human capital development in the state.
This is coming as a follow-up to the courtesy visit by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali-Pantami, to Governor Nasir El-Rufai last Saturday in Kaduna.
In the second leg of the visit on Friday, the officials of the state government led by the Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Idris Nyam, met with the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, in Abuja.
Addressing the state delegation, Mr Kashifu expressed his agency’s readiness for the commencement of the training, advising that the workshop should be held in tranches in view of the number of participants and in observance of the COVID-19 protocols.
According to him, the e-Governance training facility donated to Nigeria by the Korean government would be used to train some of the participants, while others could be trained through the NITDA Academy.
“Building the capacity of our people should be seen as a requirement for us to enhance our drive towards digital economy. I think this is what we should explore.
“We will want you to identify specialized skills you want to build and we would provide you with logistics. From our end, we are ready,” he said.
In his remarks, the commissioner identified ICT sectors such as education, health and e-government, social service development and human capital development as areas they would want NITDA’s intervention.
He, therefore, stressed the need for federal agencies to partner with the state governments especially in the provision of intervention projects.
According to him, there is political will in Kaduna State to build its ICT ecosystem.
Mr Nyam noted that if such partnership is successful, it becomes a win-win situation for both the state and the agency.
