The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has confirmed the arrest of its president, Joe Ajaero, by the operatives of the State Security Service, SSS.
Mr Ajaero was reportedly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, on Monday on his way to the United Kingdom for an official assignment.
The head of information of the NLC, Benson Upah, confirmed the arrest to Channels Television.
The NLC president was reportedly billed to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which begins today.
Mr Upah, however, said the union does not know where Mr Ajaero had been taken but he had sent a message saying it was the secret police that arrested him.
Recall that the Nigerian police had earlier accused the NLC boss of terrorism financing.
He subsequently honoured an invitation by the police alongside his lawyers and members of the union.
The union also vowed to embark on indefinite strike if the NLC leader is detained.
