The family of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has raised a sum of N1million for his feeding and medical bills at the State Security Services, SSS, detention facility.
Speaking with The Punch on Thursday, the special counsel to Mr Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, said that when they visited the IPOB leader, they found out that he had not taken his drugs for nine days.
According to him, Mr Kanu’s family will on Friday release a cheque of N1million to the State Security Services, SSS, for his feeding and drugs.
He said: “I visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in the company of Prince Emma Kanu and Barr. Nnaemeka Ejiofor.
“He instructed me to make it public that he has not been given his drugs for the past nine days and he has not eaten today because DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food.”
Also confirming the development, a younger brother to detained IPOB leader, Emma Kanu, said, “This is a confirmed story.”
Mr Kanu said: “Yesterday (Thursday), when we visited him, he has not had any food. I asked them (SSS) why, they said that there is no money for his regular meal and that they don’t have any money.
“So, we have also explained everything to the SAN, Mike Ozekhome. By today, SAN will prepare a check for N1 million to be handed over to the DSS for his feeding.
“I will also make sure I raise money and take the DSS along with me to make sure he has enough food to eat since the federal government can’t take care of him”.
The secret service is yet to respond to the allegations.
