Nollywood stars, Anita Joseph and Thelma Nwosu, will feature as guest artistes in this week’s edition of popular television comedy series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by telecom firm, Globacom.

The duo will form part of the cast to look at the inclination by many parents and guardians to send their children and wards to expensive schools, thinking such ‘big’ schools will guarantee qualitative education.

Entitled ‘Expensive Schools,’ the new episode highlights how some parents put undue pressure on themselves just to ‘meet up’ with expectations. Such parents go through difficulties to send their children to expensive schools in order not to appear inferior to their neighbours and friends who are financially comfortable enough to pay such high tuition for their wards.

Other issues will be examined in the course of the episode. For instance, are expensive schools really the best schools or are they just status symbols? Does high school fee eventually translate to academic accomplishments for the child? Should parents abandon the upbringing of their children to the teachers after paying the high school fees? Why are our educational institutions fast turning to business establishments?

The experience of Elizabeth (Queen Nwokoye), Professor Johnbull’s daughter, who does home-teaching in the episode, is also used to dramatise the issue of parents and guardians who hire home-call teachers to give extra lessons to their children and wards.

It will be interesting to see how the lead character of the TV drama series, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo), tries to counsel his ‘proximate people’ on what constitutes good education notwithstanding the amount of money charged as school fees.

Viewers will also find out what he thinks are the roles society, educational institutions, proprietors, teachers and parents should play in the upbringing of their children.Professor Johnbull is shown at 6.00 pm on Sunday on DSTV Africa Magic Family and GOTV Channel 2, with repeat broadcast on Thursday at 9.30 p.m. on the cable TV channels and on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes at 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday. It is also aired on Anambra Broadcasting Service at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday and Saturday.
