The Northern Comrades Movement of Nigeria, NCMN, has declared total support for the planned nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship.
The group, in a statement issued by its national chairman, Jabir Ibrahim, on Wednesday, urged Nigerians to come out en masse.
Mr Ibrahim described the planned public demonstration as a fight for the rescue of the country’s democracy.
The group said the current state of the nation is unacceptable considering the repeated kidnapping incidents witnessed in the last 12 months of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“Youths have become an abandoned constituency without opportunities, leading to banditry, kidnapping, and other social vices in the region, fuel scarcity and skyrocketing prices of goods and services are three times higher than they were four years ago.
“Our currency is becoming worthless in value, millions of Nigerians are facing starvation due to rising food prices and scarcity, violation of rights, including freedom of speech and association, has become the subject of the day.
“As youth, we are catalysts of change, and we must protest in order to call the attention of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under this administration, demanding an improved governance, economic empowerment of lives and properties and setting effective reforms mechanism.
“We call on well-meaning Nigerians, national, regional, grassroots youth and women organisations, and the general public to join this mass protest against imposed hardship, insecurity, hunger, abject poverty, and suppression of freedom of speech and association.
“Let us unite to demand action from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to provide reforms mechanism addressing economic hardship in the country,” the statement said.
