NOUN: Joy Eyisi takes over as new DVC Academic

  • Prof Eya Now Heads RETRIDAL

Outgoing Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), of the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Patrick Eya, on Thursday, handed over to his newly elected successor, Joy Eyisi.

Mrs Eyisi, a professor, who was hitherto the Centre Director of NOUN’s study centre in the National Assembly in Abuja, emerged winner of the election held by the University Senate yesterday.

The emotion-laden handover took place inside Mr Eya’s office at the NOUN headquarters in Abuja.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor, Abdalla Uba Adamu, according to a statement by the university’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Sheme, in Abuja.

During the brief ceremony, Mr Eya, a professor, read his handover notes and also offered pieces of insightful advice to Mrs Eyisi.

The new DVC thanked him for his fatherly advice and also thanked the VC and the University Management for the confidence they reposed in her.

In his speech, the VC felicitated with both Prof Eya and Prof Eyisi – one for successfully completing his tenure and the other for her victory in the election that made her the DVC Academic.

Mr Adamu, a professor, reiterated his oft-repeated confidence in NOUN’s women community, saying the women in the University are some of the best in Nigerian academia.

He said Prof Eyisi’s election has reaffirmed the balancing act in the university whereby every geopolitical zone in the country is represented in NOUN’s Management structure.

He announced that Prof Eya will now head the University’s RETRIDAL.
