The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Kaduna State Command, has said that no fewer than 6,000 personnel will be deployed for the May 12 local government election in the state.

The state Commandant, Madu Bunu, said in a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Orndiir Terzungwe, that the corps would provide tight security during the elections.

“We are going to deploy over 6,000 officers and men of the command in addition to reinforcement from neighbouring states — Kano, Zamfara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger and the Federal Capital Territory FCT.

“We will collaborate with sister agencies to map out strategies on how to ensure safety of election materials and security of lives of the electorate and officials.

“The security agencies have made arrangements to ensure the security of lives at polling units, collation centres and State Independent Electoral Commission, SIECOM, offices across the state as well as protection of sensitive election materials.”

Mr Bunu urged youths to eschew violence, warning that perpetrators of such acts would be arrested and sanctioned accordingly.

He said that in order to have hitch-free election, officers and men of the corps had been briefed on how to behave, stressing that anything short of that would not be accepted.

“We urge community and political leaders, traditional rulers and other opinion leaders to assist by sensitising their subjects or followers against acts inimical to peaceful conduct of elections,’’ Mr Bunu said.
