The chairman of Birnin Gwari chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Abdu Kano, has been kidnapped.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the union leader was kidnapped alongside five of his lieutenants around 5:pm near Birnin Gwari on Thursday.
Narrating the incident, Mr Kano’s driver, Abdullahi Nahuntuwa, who was immediately freed by the kidnappers to go and report the matter, told DAILY NIGERIAN that the kidnappers shot two people in another car after attempting to turn back.
“The fully armed kidnappers stopped us at a point between Gusau and Birnin Gwari, and asked us to lie down.
“Two people were shot dead in another car that attempted to turn back when the kidnappers emerged from the bush.
“We were initially alerted that kidnappers were operating along the road, so we waited for two hours at At Faruruwa, we waited for 2 hours.
“We embarked on the journey after hearing that a detachment of mobile policemen have cleared the road,” Mr Nahuntuwa said.
On April 1, a bride, alongside 10 bridesmaids, were kidnapped at Birnin Gwari town while conveying the bride to the groom’s house.
Spokesman for Kaduna Police Command, Aliyu Mukhtar, neither answered calls through to him mobile number nor responded to a text message seeking police reaction to the incident.
