The National Youth Service Corp, NYSC on Monday said it has deregistered no fewer than 100 corps members deployed to Kano State for allegedly presenting fake degree certificates.
This was disclosed by the NYSC state Coordinator, Ladan Baba at the passing out of 2019 Batch ‘B’ stream II Orientation Course, held at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Kusalla village, Karaye Local Government Area if the state on Monday.
According to Mr Baba, out of the 1,700 prospective corps members deployed to the state, 1,592 were registered, while 100 were blocked from registering online as a result of failure to defend their degrees as foreign trained during physical verification of their results.
The coordinator also revealed that 8 of the corps members were also refused registration due to incomplete and inconsistent documents.

“More worrisome is the fact that some of them do not undergo any academic pursuits but obtained certificates through illegal means with allegations that some obtained the certificates in Kano and environs,” he lamented.
“This will require urgent action by the Government and good people of Kano in collaboration a with the dogged security agencies in the State to check-mate this ugly trend that will affect us negatively,” he added.
In his remarks, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje assured that his administration would continue to ensure safety, adequate security and enhance welfare provision of the corps members posted to the state.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna revealed that the state ongoing reforms in youth policies were targeted on growth and development which are meant to uplift the standard of living of its citizenry.
“Our Government will continue to ensure adequate security in the State and live up to our statutory responsibilities to NYSC through enhanced welfare provision, safety and security of Corps Members wherever they may be posted,” said Mr Ganduje.
The governor further directed all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Local Government Areas and even Private organisations to accept the Corps Members and assist them to settle down for the effective discharge of the National Service.
He, however, implored the Corps Members to interact and understand the culture of their host communities and other aspects of their life which, according to him, would be used to uphold peace, unity and development in the state and Nigeria at large.
