The Legislative Council of Ijebu East Local Government of Ogun State has suspended the council chairman, Wale Adedayo, over alleged financial mismanagement.
In a letter addressed to the former governor of the state, Segun Osoba, on Sunday, Mr Adebayo had accused the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, of hijacking local government funds from the federation account.
But shortly after their sitting on Thursday, the lawmakers announced the suspension of the embattled chairman for three months.
The suspension was signed by seven out of the eleven Councillors that make up the local government legislative council.
The resolution reads, “That the Chairman steps aside for the proper conduct of investigations.
“The Council Chairman, Hon. Wale Adedayo, is hereby suspended for three months pending the conclusion of the investigations and therefore directed to hand over all the properties of the council in his possession to the Vice Chairman.”
The legislative arm also directed the council treasurer, through the Head of the Local Government Administration, HOLGA, to furnish them with the bank statements of the council in the last two years, along with other relevant documents and vouchers required by the house for its investigation.
